Book Clutch

Lately, I’ve been seeing tons of book clutches (like here and here). They’re cute, quirky and cost over $1000. Now I know for sure that as a server, even in a high-end restaurant, I can’t buy the clutch and pay my rent. So I decided to make my own ghetto version.

What you’ll need:

  • A wooden box – I got mine at Pearl Paint, but Amazon has some  options as well
  • A jacket sleeve of a book
  • A ruler
  • Mod Podge
  • Some scrap paper
  • Sponge brush
  • Scissors
  • Acrylic paints – I didn’t like the exposed parts, so I decided to paint over them.
  • Brushes of various sizes.

Step 1: Cut the jacket sleeve.
Step 2: Apply Mod Podge on the wooden box.
Step 3: Adhere the cover page on the box.
Step 4: Apply Mod Podge over the cover page. Once it dries, it becomes clear and creates a nice seal.
Step 5: Repeat with the back cover.
Step 6: Continue with the binding.
Step 7: You can stop here. I didn’t like the fact that it looked like a box (which it is) rather than a clutch, so I decided to paint it.
